One day, a rabbit was running around the forest. He was very proud because he could run very fast. He often laughed at a tortoise who moved very slowly. The rabbit would say, “You are too slow! You can never win anything.” The tortoise felt bad but stayed quiet.
One day, the tortoise said, “Let’s have a race.” The rabbit started laughing because he thought it was very funny. He was sure he would win easily. All the animals came to watch the race.
When the race started, the rabbit ran very fast and soon left the tortoise far behind. After running for some time, the rabbit looked back and saw that the tortoise was very far away. The rabbit thought, “I am so fast. I can rest for a while.” He sat under a tree and soon fell asleep.
The tortoise kept walking slowly. He did not stop. He did not sleep. He just kept moving step by step. After some time, the rabbit woke up and saw that the tortoise was near the finish line. The rabbit ran as fast as he could, but it was too late. The tortoise had already won the race.
The rabbit felt sorry for being proud and lazy. He learned an important lesson that day.
Moral of the Story
“Slow and steady wins the race.”
This story teaches us that patience and hard work are more important than speed and pride.
